Grapefruit seed extract? Can I just use seeds?
Working on a non chemical cure for giardia, can I just use grape fruit seeds instead of the “extract”? What would the dosage be?
I’m in rural asia, far from any kind of natural clinic.
ADD: Interesting, I’d like to further question, out of curiosity? If benzethonium chloride is what give grape fruit seed extract it mild antibiotic property, then is there any reason for the grape fruit seeds?
So far its seem that the local cure is straight up ginger.
Get hold of some bee propolis as parasitic clearance of giardia was shown in one study involving children and adults……52% and 60% sucess rate, respectively..
[ref: Miyares C, Hollands I, Castaneda C, et al. Clinical trial with a preparation based on propolis "propolisina" in human giardiasis. Acta Gastroenterol Latinoam 1988;18:195–201.

If you can get hold of watercress [Nasturtium officinale ] seeds try a dessertspoonful [2 teaspoons] on an empty stomach. Mustard seeds [anti-parasitic] could be substituted if you can tolerate these. And I would crush the seeds with a pestle and mortar first and assess your stomach tolerance of them by trying out a tiny amount first.
A herb that may grow in your neck of the woods [perhaps?!] that has antiparastic properties, including against Giardia is the herb Jatoba [Hymenaea courbaril]..
Just found this abstract that might be of interest to you:

In terms of parasite mortaility: using extracts…….Justicia spicigera [mexican honeysuckle], Lipia beriandieri [mexican oregano] and Psidium guajava [guava] fared better than the positrive control tinidazol [anti-giardia drug]. And Punica granatus [pomegranate], Magnifera indica (mango) and Plantago major [plantain] fared similarly with the drug tinidazol. Plus there were other herbs of benefit…

I think it was the leaves that were used to prepare the extracts for all, including for guava, pomegranate and mango [ http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FDN/is_2_8/ai_103194437/pg_10/ ].
You could substitute oregano [Origanum vulgate] for mexican oregano [ http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FDN/is_2_8/ai_103194437/pg_10/ ]..
Could that be spiked ginger [lily] [Hedychium spicatum ] that is a local remedy in China for giardiasis [http://www.mamaherb.com/giardiasis-home-remedy-using-spiked-ginger ] .
Yes I think it would be worthwhile trying the local “cure” first and foremost.
Best wishes.
