real potatoes in restaurant french fries?
If you go to fast food restaurants or hamburger joint… it’s hard to resist french fries. I once heard that there are hardly any real potatoes in french fries from McD, BKing, Red Robin…. etc… I heard that they put potato powder to make it taste like potato. Is this true?
The “secret” to McDonald’s fries is in the freezing process they sugar coat the fries (from real potatoes) and they are deep fried in a mixture of beef fat and vegetable oil. This gives them that golden crispy superior flavor and texture that is nearly impossible to duplicate at home.On the other hand In and Out Burger uses actual whole fresh peeled potatoes and puts them in a hand operated ricer and immediately puts them in a deep fryer containing only pure new 100% vegetable oil. I hate them, how ever, I find them limp and greasy. The employee’s there insist that I order them and proceed to tell me how there made. I said I’m well aware of how their made I just don’t prefer them. Other fast food places the stuff tastes fake with the exception of Wendy’s which is vastly superior if you like thicker fries.I don’t have a connection at the higher level management there, but one of these days I’ll find someone who does.
